Cantabile is a trio of classical
musicians who specialize in performing “art songs,” poetry set to music
by classical composers. The trio consists of two sopranos, Jeanne
Masterman and Laurie Oliver, and pianist Rachel Muller. All are
residents of Westford.
Singers Jeanne Masterman and Laurie Oliver were classmates at the
University of Mass. at Lowell, College of Music. Both also have
backgrounds in writing.
JEANNE MASTERMAN holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice
Performance. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism
from Boston University. She has graduate credits in music
education from UMass.-Lowell and University of St. Thomas, MN.
National Association of Teachers of Singers, she maintains a voice
studio in her home. She is co-organizer of the town’s Community
Christmas Chorus, and director of The Golden Notes, a choir of
residents at Bridges, an assisted living facility in
Westford. She is a member of the adult choir at St. Irene’s
Church in Carlisle, and the Christmas carol quartet, Yuletide Carolers.
LAURIE OLIVER has always been drawn to both poetry and music, having
earned a degree in English from UMass.-Lowell, returning to study Music
Education with a major in voice. After earning her Music Ed. Degree in
1990, she has spent the last three decades teaching elementary school
students to sing, dance and play recorder and other classroom
instruments. In her spare time, she directs the Westford
Girl Scout Chorus, sings in the Community Christmas Chorus as well as
the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chelmsford.
RACHEL MULLER began studying piano at age 9. She was a piano
student at the Longy School of Music for many years, continuing her
lessons while earning a degree in Software Engineering from Tufts
University. Although she is a software architect by trade, Rachel
devotes much of her free time to musical pursuits. She loves
sharing music in myriad ways, accompanying recitalists and school
choirs, and providing music for weekly Masses at St. Catherine and St.
Anne parishes in Westford and Littleton. Rachel is a member of
the Seele Musicale Chamber Ensemble, as well as the alternative rock
group, The Church Ladies.
